Great shot! I love his expression. I think you should enter him for hope. You surely couldn't find a more hopeful look!

Redcow my friend, any 'hope' on the part of this lion would have been his hope that his meal was arriving sooner rather than later. He could smell it, hence the look of expectation. Glad you like the shot.

Looks very noble from the angle shot. So sharp I can count his whiskers and shot through glass! Gorgeous.

A fave for me for sure! I agree with Redcow's acomment about entering this into the hope contest. This image is well taken all the way through the board. Excellent.

Location
I took this photo at Sydney, Australia'a Taronga Park Zoo.Time
The photo was taken in the early afternoon on a fine summer's day. It was feeding time for the lions.Lighting
Not really.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D Mark II camera with a 28-135 f3.5 Canon lens.Inspiration
The lion's expression was the main motivation, as he was expecting food very shortly. I'm sure he could smell it.Editing
I can recall, but I may have given the photo some slight enhancement via Corel Paint Shop which was the software I used at the time.In my camera bag
This will depend on what I am doing. If I'm travelling as a tourist, I find the Canon very heavy, so at present I am using a Lumix DSLR with a 20-1200 mm zoom lens. The camera is light, and I dont have to change lenses. If I'm into more serious photography, I will use the Canon. I have four lenses I can use with this camera, a Sigma w/a zoom, and 100mm macro lens, lus two Canon lenses. A 28-135 f3.5 lens, and a 70-200 f4.5 lens. I try and avoid tripods, unless I am doing night or close up photography.Feedback
I was fortunate in being in the right place at the right time for this shot. One has to be opportunistic with animal photos, as they will move/change expressions in a nano second. The perspex screen made it much easier to take the shot, bars and metal screens are not conducive to these types of shots. If you are taking a shot through glass/perspex, make sure that the lens or lens hood is pressing against the glass/perspex surface to avoid reflections in the shot.
