Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my garden. I was experimenting with a new lens.

Time

This was morning time in the summer with clear skies and a bit of wind which caused me some trouble with my shutter speed.

Lighting

Soft morning light.

Equipment

I used the sweet35 optic lensbaby lens with my Canon 5d. The toughest thing to deal with was the wind because the flower was blowing back and forth while I was trying to manually focus with a very small sweet spot. It took a great deal of patience, trial and error but I finally ended up getting my shot.

Inspiration

I love flowers and especially the uniqueness of this particular specimen in my garden. I wanted to draw attention to the symmetry of the petals and unique star shape of this flower called "Astrantia."

Editing

In post processing I boosted the color a bit as well as the contrast and sharpness. I also tried to capitalize on the light by screening the areas where the light was.

In my camera bag

It just depends what I am shooting. Most of the time I am taking portraits so I use my 85mm lens the most. I also love my 50 mm 1.8 prime.

Feedback

Lots of patience.
