Every time I look at the perfection of this orchid, I just shake my head, because this is probably one of the easiest photos I've ever made! A friend and I were hiking through a Costa Rican rain forest and when he fell behind I just stopped in place. I looked down and here was the magnificent orchid in soft, overcast light. I zoomed to 300 mm, had enough light at a low ISO for 1/60th of second, made three or four frames, then headed back down the trail to check on my friend. I completely forgot about the photo until a week later when I finally got around to editing my take! Surprise surprise!
