Just to start with, Wow, I am thrilled that you like my photo and would consider putting it in your blog. I am an amateur photographer who last year upgraded from a point and shoot small camera to a Canon SX50 bridge camera as I got the photography bug. I really can't give you many details about my techniques etc as it is all about experimentation and just taking loads of photos at this stage so you will probably not want to publish this for your blog. I always have my camera with me so most of my photos are not setup but just me thinking that scene looks fabulous and selecting a setting which I think suits. This photo was taken at one of my favorite places in the world, Tauranga Marina, New Zealand. It is a truly magical place where I have taken lots of photos over the years.Time
I love taking sunset photos and I remember this day quite clearly as I wasn't go out as there was a bit of cloud about and I thought I would give it a miss as it wouldn't be worth driving down to the marina through the rush hour traffic. With about 1/2 an hour to go to sunset I suddenly thought, I'm going out and just see what happens. It turned out that I took some of my favorite sunset photo that evening. The clouds, the color of the sunset were just beautiful.Lighting
When I first got to the marina I thought that nights' sunset wasn't going to be much and I thought about turning around and going home. I decided to wait awhile and all of a sudden the light just turned the most amazing golden and red colour. I was so pleased that I had patience to wait. Sometimes the best shots are when you least expect them.Equipment
I am definitely an amateur photographer so my equipment is pretty basic. For this shot I used my trusty Canon SX50 but recently have changed over to a Nikon. I usually do use a tripod for sunset shots but this evening I didn't think I was going to get anything so didn't bother to set the tripod up.Inspiration
I find the sea a great inspiration. In this particular location I know that the sun sets behind the hills, which are in the distance of the photo, so you have the beautiful yachts of the marina, the hills, it is just an amazing landscape which is constantly changing as some days there are people fishing or swimming in the little bay not far from the marina. I have taken photos here at all times of the day and different weather conditions. A stormy sea can result in some amazing shots.Editing
No post production for this photo, all natural. In my camera bag
I have several filters in my bag, spare batteries, lens cleaner and that is it. When I am more confident with my photography I will upgrade to a DSLR camera but at this stage I am happy with my bridge camera.Feedback
Well obviously I can't offer much technical advice on taking photos but for other amateurs out there I would say perseverance, practice and always have your camera handy for you never know when you will come across a fabulous scene that you will want to capture. I was walking down the street one in day in a city in New Zealand when a man passed me in the most outrageous colorful outfit. I stopped him and asked if I could take his photo and it is one of my favorite 'people' photos.
