This photo was taken backstage at a children's theatre, I was helping the Wicked Witch of the West get ready to go on stage and saw a prop apple and thought it would be the perfect shot!Time
I believe it was about 1:00 in the afternoon since the matinee show usually starts at 2:00. I couldn't wait to show everyone the photo after the performance.Lighting
The lighting for this shot was dim florescent lights in a dressing room, so I had the girls turn on the Make-up lights for extra lighting and let my ISO do the rest!Equipment
All I had with me to get this picture at the time, was my trusty Canon camera and my 18-55lens.Inspiration
I love theatre and story telling so I saw the costume and props and it sparked a story in my mind of a witch and a poison apple. I thought why not create that story while I have this opportunity. I'm glad I listened to my imagination!Editing
I did a little bit of touch up on the green make-up because it was coming off her hands in post-production and I also darkened the black background which was her dress and cape for a more contrasting and sinister look.In my camera bag
Since this photo was taken I have added a few more lenses to my collection and I always have my laptop, camera, batteries and SD cards with me.Feedback
I would say take your camera with you everywhere because I never would have taken this shot if I hadn't brought it with me and had it available and ready to capture in the moment. If you wanted to do something like this with costumes and props ask your local community theatre if they have things you can use, I'm sure there are actors who would model for you. Support the arts and get out there and create something fun!
