Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo in my upstairs studio. A friend let me borrow his parts of a small motor.Time
The best time for me to shoot is late evening. I can take my time setting up the still life and I need the dark to take the picture.Lighting
I shoot first in the light and use a white background. Then I shut the lights and take a series of 8 to 10 photos and combine the photos in photoshop. I then ad the most interesting background I can find. I love this method of Light Painting.Equipment
I used a NIKON D800 with an 85mm F1.8 lens.Inspiration
The gears were so beautiful that I wanted to see them in an unusual layout. I love to do light painting when the subject is interesting.Editing
Yes, I have over 20yrs experience with Photoshop and I love to bring perfection to a photo which can also be a downfall. Also I work separately on each layer to produce the effect I am looking for.In my camera bag
I have a Nikon D800, 85mm 1.8, 50mm 1.4, 70-300mm 4.5, 15-30mm 3.5 Sigma Zoom, Tripod, Monopod, filters and other accessories.Feedback
Always allow your self distance and special lighting for the background. Let the foreground go dark with no lighting. Then you can experiment with many different backgrounds.
