Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Kent Falls in Kent Connecticut. Sadly people have ruined the spot and the park rangers will not allow anyone to sit in the refreshingly cold waters any longer. The year after this picture was taken, the falls were closed to the public. now all you can do is observe.

Time

It was taken in the later afternoon so the summer lighting was about perfect.

Lighting

I was shooting a long exposure so I had the stop down.

Equipment

I shot this with my D60 Nikon with a simple 28-80 lens. It was on a tripod and I was standing knee deep in the middle of the river when I took this shot.

Inspiration

I was actually waiting for the people in the the falls to sink down so they wouldn't be seen. I was actually going for a more natural look to the cascade, when "she" stood up momentarily and stood still. She made the picture!

Editing

I did very little to the picture. I sharpened her just a tiny amount because she did move a bit, but prety much what you see in this picture, is what I took.

In my camera bag

Now I shoot a Nikon D7100 to go along with a coolpix and occasionally I bring out a medium format Roliflex just for fun.

Feedback

The most important thing for any photographer to have is patience. To recreate this picture, first find a waterfall, set your tripod and wait for people to enter the frame.
