This photo was taken of Newport Beach on Sydneys Northern Beaches. The Break is off the point of Newport Reef and gets its name "Death Ledge" by the super heavy barrel that is created when it hits the shallow pinnacle it breaks on. I took this photo from my boat as it is inaccessible by land unless you swim out (which is a long way).Time
This image was taken around mid morningLighting
It was a bit of a low light cloudy day which helps make the photo more dramatic and gloomy and puts the "feel" of the name Death Ledge into context.Equipment
Canon 60d with 100-400mm canon lensInspiration
I wanted to capture the raw power of the wave and get a unique picture of that particular wave. It is one of the heaviest waves in Sydney by far and only breaks this way when there is a particular swell direction.Editing
I did a bit of light and contrast editing in lightroom. In my camera bag

Get out and takes as many photos as you can! Make sure you look at the weather patterns and swell direction if the "break" you are shooting only breaks in a certain swell. This will give you a better chance of making plans to get to the spot (ie organising a boat) so you can get the shot you are looking for.
