Location
This photo was taken outdoor at a huge garden. I am a hobbyist photographer and I had been mesmerised by such shot of light rays from other photographers. Was glad that I shot this which is also one of my favourite shot in my earlier day of picking up the hobby.Time
It was about 4pm in the day and the garden irrigation system kicked in about half an hour earlier. The mist was created by the irrigation system and was brilliantly reflecting the afternoon sun. I saw the sight and was delighted that my camera and the right lens was with me that afternoon.Lighting
The entire scene was in fact very bright and almost just ordinary. It took me a while to find a better composition and angle through the cluster of trees and branches that would then create a more dramatic effect of the light rays. I had to bend amongst the branches to find this composition. I thought the big fern leaves right in the foreground, the overhang smaller ferns and the tree at further away was the ideal angle, that would give the feel of a jungle setting.Equipment
This was a handheld shot with my Olympus EM1 mk1 camera and my 12-40mm pro lens.Inspiration
I had been mesmerised by such shot of light rays from other photographers and thus has been one of the bucket list to checked off. I like to try different genre of photography to improve my skill as a hobby. Photography also trained my eyes to look for details. This scene by itself was ordinary and would be easily brushed off by many individuals. I am becoming to love the way a photographer would look at things in different aspects and at different angles, and to turn something ordinary into a picture.Editing
The shot was shoot with a -0.7 step down to soften the harsh afternoon lights, but at the same time also taking care of the foreground details in the shadows. It was then processed with some cropping. The temperature was tuned slightly more warm and decreased slightly the green tint. the overall brightness was reduced to a level to balance and to enhance the light rays further. In my camera bag
I would almost always have my 12-40mm pro lens with me, as this zoom lens is a very versatile lens, covering 24-80mm in FF. The quality of the lens is one of Olympus top notch lens and was one of their very early pro lens that is built with weather proof all round.Feedback
An eyes for details and the heart to attempt new things. Most importantly is not to shy away from learning and copying what other photographers had done, and to better it in your own way.
