Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on Thanksgiving morning when we had a lot of company at the house. We live on a farm in northeastern Colorado and this old shed and tree have been here forever. Our farm is from the early 19 hundreds.

Time

This was taken at dawn when I was working on breakfast for all the family. I was busy but when I looked up; saw this amazing sky. I grabbed my camera and ran out wearing tennis shoes and my robe. LOL

Lighting

I did't use any special equipment for this shot; this is all God's hand in the lighting.

Equipment

I have a Sony camera and didn't use any equipment or special settings at all.

Inspiration

The lighting was so perfect that it seemed like a Thanksgiving for sure...which it was.

Editing

The only thing I did was cut a tiny bit off the edge to clean up the shot. No coloration changes at all. I took several shots with different settings and this one is the best of five.

In my camera bag

I loved my Sony A55 that I shot this with. I had to replace it when I got shutter bounce but loved this camera so much I used a professional photographers advice of staying with the Sony brand so I wouldn't have to replace any zooms I had for it. I got a Sony A58 for my next purchase and it's been a dream to work with. The price is well within my price range and is very handy to use for almost any shot.

Feedback

The thing I always tell people that ask about shooting this kind of photo is to get up every morning early and keep an eye out on the sky. Sometimes a sunrise doesn't seem like much and then all at once it blossoms into this delicious photo right before your eyes. Keep your camera ready at ALL times for that perfect shot. (I take my camera everywhere I go!) and always ALWAYS keep equipment charged and ready to get started. Sunrises are very brief and can disappear while you're looking for a battery.
