Location
The photo was taken at Descanso Gardens, a favorite public botanical garden in La Cañada Flintridge, California. It is a great place to spend the day; pack lots of water, a picnic lunch, of course your camera and stroll the 160 acres of natural treasures to your hearts delight.Time
It was a bit shy of noon time as I was preparing to leave the grounds. Funny how it happened because a friend had joined me that day and as we neared the exit she said, "let me stop at the bathroom". Waiting I noticed the pond area and to my utter delight dragonflies darting about. At first I watched them and then thought, "hey maybe I can get a photo memory" and well the photo finishes that story. Lucky day for me!Lighting
I was fortunate the pond location accompanied by the water plants offered just enough subject light.Equipment
Nikon CoolPix P500 and not a thing else. I tell you, the small processors in the point and shoots can pull off some pretty good near macros.Inspiration
To share the beautiful dragonfly with others. The beauty of photography, sharing!Editing
Processed photo in Lightroom; some noise reduction, a bit of color pop and cropping. In my camera bag
These days my camera bag holds a Nikon D5200 camera mounted with a Sigma 18-200mm lens. Good camera and lens but I will say long overdue for a step up...Feedback
Focus on the subject and I don't mean merely focusing of the camera; focus your mind too. Take in your view, your subject and think what is the image I hope to come away with here. Frame that up in your view finder and when you feel you got it then gently depress shutter button. Be patient and still for these turbo charged beauties spend most of their time darting here, there and everywhere only landing occasionally to rest. Try different angles too and just shoot lots of frames, that's one of the beauties of digital photography, no dollars for film developing needed any longer. And above all else enjoy the photographic journey and have fun!
