Behind The Lens

Location

My Wife and I were returning from a photo road trip. We were coming down out of the eastern Sierra from Kennedy Meadows down to U.S. 395

Time

This was right at sunset, magic hour.....

Lighting

It was perfect light, beautiful color. Natures gift to photography, right place, right time, camera in hand!

Equipment

I used my Canon 5DM2, I can't remember if I used the Canon 28-70 L Series or one of my favorite Pentax Medium Format lenses that I have an adapter for.

Inspiration

Perfect light!

Editing

I played with it a little in Lightroom but as happens to me very often it was a very good exposure and I left it alone. If I have the opportunity for a shot like this I will often bracket several exposures and pick from the group.

In my camera bag

My 5D with the 20-70 and a 70-200. Then it's dealers choice what. I may have from my Pentax Lenses. I have a Manfotto Tripod and if it is a road trip I do bring my trusty Pentax 6x7 and actually expose some FILM!

Feedback

My advise is this, Too many people wanting to take great exposures are looking at the subject and not what light is doing to or in the subject. Study light, be curious, ask yourself where is that coming from what is affecting its color, shape intensity and where is it playing in your composition. Most of all HAVE YOUR CAMERA WITH YOU ALL THE TIME. You never know what may appear. Lastly, practice working with exposure in manual mode. Push the limits over and under practice bracketing.
