Location
I took this photo in Laguna Beach Southern California. This beach has tide pools and beautiful rock formation. I really like to shoot here, I think its one of the most beautiful beaches in Southern California. The only problem is that so do other people. It is always very crowed but worth the wait for your shot.Time
My favorite time to shoot portrait of course is the golden hour. This shot was taken around 5:00-7:00 pm. During spring time.Lighting
I like to shoot at the golden hour with a little flash to enhance the model. The rocks were hiding the sun on this shot so the flash helps to bring more light in.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 5D Mark II and a Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens. I also used a Canon Speedlite 580 EX II, with a Pocket Wizard mini TTI and a Flex TT5. I also brought a Westcott Rapid Box speedlite soft box.Inspiration
I love shooting people and this family has a new member in their family. Dillan was being such a trooper at the photo shoot, so we kept shooting until the sun was gone. To see his mother's love for him and his love for her was a perfect memory to give them to cherish forever. I enjoy landscapes but I feel that there is something missing if there are not people in the shot. I think that family, love ones, friends, relationships speak a thousand words in one photo. Capturing memories in life is my favorite photos to share.Editing
I shoot my photos in Raw and then download the photos to Apeture. I will resize the photos there. And then sent them over to Photoshop and edit the photos. Sometimes I will use a action if I feel it needs a little more editing. In my camera bag
I normally carry my camera, Canon EOS 5D Mark II. Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS lens, Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8 L IS lens and a Canon EF 50mm 1:1.4 prime lens. A Canon Speedlite 580 EX II, Pocket Wizard mini TTI , Flex TT5. I use a Westcott Rapid Box speedite soft box . If I have someone to help me I will put the soft box on a monopod. Or I will bring a light stand. I also use a sekonic L-475 light meter.Feedback
Alway consider the light, time of day and location to shoot your portrait. Backgrounds are important because you don't want to lose the most important thing which is your subject. Try to capture the personality of your subjects. Capturing their emotions, who they are. The relationships of the family at that moment in their lives that they can relive in a photo.
