This photo was taken in my yard at home in Western Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. I love my pets like no one knows, and this shot perfectly captures the expression of my pup.Time
It was mid-day in July, just another weekend summer day spent outside with family. I was taking a minute to play with the dog, and while she waited for my next move, she looked up with this expression. I took the opportunity and snapped this shot of her. It's one I'll always remember.Lighting
It's always tough to get a good shot of my dog because she's always moving around or doing something, so when she was sitting perfectly and glanced up at me, I was fortunate to have good natural lighting right on her at this exact moment.Equipment
I used a Nikon D300 at 135 mm. No tripod, no flash. Just a quick, candid moment!Inspiration
I love my pup so much, and I was just spending the day outside in the beautiful weather with my awesome dog. I had decided to bring my camera around with me and this just happened. I am so glad it did!Editing
The original shot actually turned out really well. I did do some post-processing, although not much. The little touch-ups I did include some contrast and saturation adjustments. In my camera bag
Right now, my bag contains: my Nikon camera (obviously!), a 55-200mm lens, 18-55mm, and a 50mm f/1.8. I also have some cleaning materials, a lens hood, a rain sleeve, battery charger, wireless adapter, as well as some other cool helpful tools.Feedback
Photography can be very exciting, frustrating, tiring, and amazing, sometimes all at the same time. My advice for anyone, in general, is to be patient. Sometimes the best shots I come away with are the ones I didn't even know I took! Take your camera with you everywhere and shoot anything, any time you can. You will be surprised what you can do with a little time and practice. Stay with it!
