Lighting was natural lighting. No flash setups were used.Equipment
Used a canon rebel T2i and Canon 100-400mm lens. No tripod. Just used handrails to keep the camera steady. No flash used also and no filters.Inspiration
I love taking nature photos. Especially closeups of things that you normally don't notice with your eyes walking by. And I love bold colors in my photos. The color contrast between the gecko and the flower is part of what inspired me to take the photo.Editing
I did crop, sharpen a little bit and did some color correction. Nothing more.In my camera bag
Depending on if I am driving in my car of hiking. If driving, then I tend to take a bit more, my Canon 7D, Canon 100-400, Canon 15-85mm with polarizer, Canon 100mm F2.8 macro. I also keep my Sony RX100 M3 point-and-shoot for quick shots. If hiking, then I only keep Canon 7D, Canon 100-400mm, Canon 500D closeup filter and Sony RX100 M3.Feedback
Well, the main thing is keep your eyes open to possibilities. Don't have one goal in mind and go for it. Stop to look close for anything interesting. Do some research about what kind of animals that live in the area and have an idea of what to expect before going there. That way as you walk by you know what to keep an eye out for. In this case, I knew these geckos live on the Big Island and was interested in finding them. So I was looking around whenever I was walking around there.
