Location
I took this photo in my old studio outside downtown Tampa, Florida.Time
It was a Sunday... shot at 7:15pm.Lighting
Key: Paul C. Buff ABR800 w/ moon unit Fill: Gold bounce reflector Background: Canon 580EX II Speedlite shooting through a Lightblaster w/a marble-patterned slide (I think I used an old Nikkor 50mm F1.2 as the projector lens) For this shot, I may have had to flagged the key light to prevent spill onto the background.Equipment
Canon 5D mark III, Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4 APO-Distagon, manfrotto tripod, Paul C. Buff ABR800 w/ moon unit, Lightblaster, gold bounce reflector, and the studio's giant cyc wall.Inspiration
Who knows how these spur-of-the-moment weekend photoshoots originate? I think what's most important is to just shoot as much as possible and experiment often.Editing
Basic post-processing in Adobe Camera Raw.In my camera bag
Which bag? These days, I tend to choose the gear I need for the specific shoot. But I always have my "go to" items: Canon 5D3, Canon 70-200mm F2.8L IS II, Canon 35mm F2 IS, lens pens, panchro (the best lens cleaner I've used), a can of compressed air (and/or a bulb air blower), a variety of lens filters (NDs and circular polarizers), 4 or 5 camera batteries, and plenty of media cards.Feedback
To get a shot like this, you'll need (in order of importance): a directable subject (helps if they're gorgeous), good wardrobe, a solid makeup artist, and patience setting up the lighting.
