I took this photo at the skatepark in my hometown of Pittsburg, Kansas! It's a hangout spot for all the local kids!Time
It was late afternoon on a fall day! We had been skating for a few hours and all the guys were warmed up when I noticed Zach going for a cool transfer it took him a few tries which enabled me to find the right angle! I would say I got the shot a around 5:30 in the afternoon!Lighting
Lighting is always the most important variable, I try to avoid hard light as much as possible! For this image it was later in the day so the light was semi-soft!Equipment
I used my canon rebel T2i . Canon lens 18-55 mm! I didn't need much else for this shot.Inspiration
I love skateboarding! Skateboarding is what led me into the photography/videography field! It's really tricky to take a self-portrait of an action shot! Lol! So most of the skaters I photograph I know pretty well and am familiar with their style! We all get stoked on zachs styled out transfer air on the spine!Editing
I try to keep from editing my images in post production! I don't think there was any editing with this image! In my camera bag
My canon rebel body with an 18-55 mm lens and a 55-200 mm lens! Three lens filters just in case! 2 extra memory cards, shutter release cable and business cards! Also I have a flash unit I keep in my bag!Feedback
Skateboarders love photographers so grab your equipment and head over to your local skatepark! Timing is everything with shots like this! Use a higher shutter speed to get the stop-action technique as I did here. Another thing to consider is your POV or point of view. Shoot from a low angle aiming up at your subject!
