Location
About three months after getting my camera, my mother-in-law and I climbed the fence at her neighbor's old barn. This old rusty sickle bar was hanging up, and I knew I had to get a shot of it.Time
This was taken around 4:00 in the afternoon.Lighting
This was inside the barn hanging on a post that was under where a portion of the tin roof had come off. There was light coming through but it was not harsh and gave no shadows, because it was an overcast day.Equipment
I shot this with my Canon Rebel T3i using my 18-55 mm lens. No flash or other equipment was used.Inspiration
I think photos of old rusty tools, equipment, vehicles, etc that you don't see all the time are intriguing and make for interesting subjects.Editing
I actually used my Ipad with the Photogene app on this photo. I cropped it down to show just this portion of the blade. I then adjusted the saturation until the colors popped. In my camera bag
My bag is very minimal. I carry a 50 mm prime, 18-55 mm and 70-300 mm lenses. I have a polarizing filter that usually stays on the lens that I am using. I also have a variable ND filter.Feedback
I am fairly new to photography but have found that taking your time and looking at your subject in relation to your surroundings, rather than just jumping at the first shot you see, will get you better results. I probably shot this 15 times from different angles, heights and distances until I got to the one that I knew was it.
