Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot in my bedroom, which was my makeshift studio at the time!

Time

It was taken in the evening, I was doing a project on splashes and drops of different liquids for college. This meant I spent a lot of evenings trying different setups and angles.

Lighting

I used a flashgun for this shot. I remember looking back at it and thinking, "I really need to get another flashgun", as you can see there's some shadow on the right hand side from the drop.

Equipment

I shot this with a Canon 600D, a Canon 17-40mm f4 L lens (which was my baby!) and a Canon 430 EX II flashlight

Inspiration

On Flickr I used to see a lot of these types of photographs and I was really interested in how the photographer had managed to create such beautiful pieces of work. One of the artists that really inspired me was Martin Klimas.

Editing

A little tidying up of the background as there were quite a few splats of milk there as I used black card for the background.

In my camera bag

In my bag you would normally find: Canon 600D x2 Canon 430 EX II flashlights Spare lithium ion battery Spare AA batteries My Canon 17-40mm f4 L lens

Feedback

My advice regarding these sort of shots would be to keep trying different setups and see what works best for you. Oh, and definitely invest in some flashlights. They help massively!
