This image was taken on a private lake in Vermont in the Fall of 2012. It is a very secluded area with a breathtaking view and peaceful scenery. So very quiet and sereneTime
This image was made at sunrise as the fog lifted.Lighting
When I arrived I could hardly see the water let alone the pier itself. Heavy fog hovered a few feet above the calm water's surface. As pre-sunrise "sweet light" began filtering thru the fog I saw the outline of the pier and began to understand this was going to be an amazing experience and photographic possibility. I merely waited for the perfect balance of light and fog to make my desired exposure.Equipment
I shoot with the Canon 5D Mark II and the 24-70mm 2.8 Canon lens. This was mounted on an Induro CT313 tripod with a Really Right Stuff BH-55 ball head. I always use a shutter release to minimize camera shake and movement.Inspiration
When I woke up at the Bed & Breakfast I was staying at to go and shoot sunrise I realized it was solid fog outside and almost went back to sleep! Then I remembered another photograph I had always admired that was a pier in fog and thought this might be my chance to create a similar image. SO I got out the door and went searching for a lake. Still not even sure how I found this little dirt road nor what made me take it at all. But at the end of the road there was a lake thick with fog. I just waited it out!Editing
I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop for post-processing. Lightroom allows me to enhance the density, white balance and subtitles in the colors of the scene. In my camera bag
Canon 5D Mark II & III, 15mm, 17-40mm f4, 24-70mm f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 100mm f2,8 Macro lenses, shutter cables, ND filters, Vari-ND filter, polarizer and peanut M&MsFeedback
Get out of bed, especially when you don't want to. Get out into the world and go places you have not been before. Take those roads that don't look heavily traveled. Get down on your belly, stand on a rock or climb a tree and select a vantage point other than just standing up! Main piece of advice is to GO, SEE, and EXPLORE . . . and have fun too!!
