Location
This was taken in Kent, UK with a friend who had just trained his Hawk to fly free. I was new to photography and loving trying to capture the speed of this amazing bird.Time
I think this was shot late afternoon on a reasonable day with cloud cover.Lighting
The lighting for this wasn't perfect if I had a flash it would of helped a little but the clouds made it nice and even for me.Equipment
I had my first DSLR a Canon 400d with a Tamron 55-200 Telephoto lens.Inspiration
I love animals and especially birds of prey, have been fascinated by them since I was young and was glad when a close friend became heavily involved with them allowing me to get closer than I could imagine!Editing
I used an iPad back then to review and edit my images as I didn't have LR or PS, I used apps like snapseed to slightly increase exposure and lift shadows and bring back some of that colour too. I generally made small tweaks rather than trying to change the image completely. In my camera bag
Nowadays I have a bit more kit, 2 bodies Canon 1d mkii and my 400d, 50mm 1.8, 70-20 2.8L, 100mm 2.8L Macro, 100-400 L, 600RT flash & 430EXii flashes, Manfrotto tripod, off camera flash triggers,Feedback
Keep the shutter speed high and don't be afraid to use a higher ISO, a nice clear shot is better than a slightly blurry one for fear of raising your ISO. Keep steady and use something to rest against if possible especially if at the longer end of your focal range.
