"This photo was taken at home at Ryan's sister's birthday party - just after 'it' happened."Time
"I absolutely love this image - all natural lighting. This image was captured at 2pm and close to a window. You can see the light landing on the right hand side of Ryan's face which was softened by the glass in the window."Lighting
"I ofter find that external flash if not used correctly can wash out and image or subject. Using natural light can quite often create harsh shadows on subject(s) when outdoors, so a great tip when indoors is the have the subject stand close to a window to use the natural light. The window acts as a filter and minimises the harsh shadows which are often associated with outdoor natural light."Equipment
"This image was captured on my Canon 5D Mkiii, with the EF 100mm f2.8L IS Macro lens - no other equipment was used."Inspiration
"What had just happened 2 seconds before inspired me to take this photo. It was his sister's birthday and one of her presents was just what he wanted - she turned her back for a split second and bang! he grabbed it and hide it under his t-shirt, turned around and gave me this mischievous grin."Editing
"usually portrait photography requires a lot of skin retouching and smart sharpening. For this image I simply sharpened the eyes a little and that was it!"In my camera bag
"I never leave without my Canon 5D Mkiii, my EF 100mm f2.8L IS Macro and my 85mm f/1.8. I generally shot portraits and with these two lens I fell more than ready to capture the moment!"Feedback
"I always carry my camera with me everywhere I go, literally! A lot of photographers plan, seek out spots, track the sun etc, which is all great, but there are just times when you need a camera for spur of the moments like these, such a great capture and one that I am very proud to have been able to capture."
