Behind The Lens

Location

On a little used railway line near Waterford in the South East if Ireland. Only used a couple of times a week now for freight. The passenger services have been cancelled.

Time

About midday when the sun was fairly low which gave me some natural light in the tunnel

Lighting

If it's a landscape the position of the sun is important as it can make or break an image.

Equipment

Sony SLT A65 with 18-70 lens. tripod and a 2 second exposure

Inspiration

I was leaving the tunnel with my eyes on an old bridge ahead where I originally intended to take a few pics, when I looked behind me I noticed that the sun was low and shining nicely into the tunnel. It just goes to show you have to be looking all around you to get the shots.

Editing

Dodging and burning on the tracks and walls and a good bit os sharpening on the stones around the tracks.

In my camera bag

Sony SLT A65 camera. Sigma 10-20 wide angle lens. Tamron 18-200 and my 18- 70 kit lens, tripod and I never go anywhere without my graduated filters.

Feedback

The sun position. The old smoke stains add life to this image so anything that adds impact is good. Be careful on the post processing and don't over do it. Try and keep images as natural as possible. I am an amateur and I find the more pictures I take and the more setting I try the better I get. My little bit of advice is "you won't get great images sitting at home, get out there" Michael
