For Emily-Grace's module titled Photographic Practices, Emily proposed to photograph close-ups of nude parts of the body. Using the photographic technique of photomontage, she transformed these images into a landscape-like scene using appropriate cut out images located on various websites on the Internet. She cut out these images using the computer programme Adobe Photoshop because it is a specialized processing tool and it is known for providing designers and photographers with numerous tools to use and gives the user freedom for creating. Emily wanted to do this project because in her research she became interested in comparable images by artist Allen Teger, who uses figurines on top of nude women to produce Bodyscapes, and photographer Carl Warner, who uses many different images of the body to create desert scenes. Emily liked the unique style of the images she had found, and was also interested in the technique of photomontage, so using this idea she decided to do a similar style to her researched photographers except using photomontage as a technique instead. This is because Emily is yet to find similar images in this photographic technique. For this work, Emily used a digital camera, as it is easier to process and edit her images on a computer system. For her images she used natural light so that her images would fit in with the natural landscape look that she was trying to create. Emily also needed to photograph on a bright day however not overly light as she did not want the details of the body to be bleached out. Using a black sheet, Emily set up a home studio next to a window for the natural light; this was so that the background would be easier to cut out and replaced with another image on Adobe Photoshop as required.
