Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the beach at Blackpool at the end of the runway at Blackpool Airport. It was a clear but cold morning which is nothing unusual about Blackpool

Time

The photo was taken in the morning (9:30am 29th March 2014) on a cold but clear March day. After a long drive to Blackpool, we were walking the dog along the beach to stretch our legs.

Lighting

It was shot with natural lighting on a clear morning so the sun was shining offering a good quality of like.

Equipment

This was shot with my very first DSLR the Canon 100D with the 18-135mm kit lens. It was shot at f5.6 1/1600. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I will always try to have my camera with me when walking out and about as you never know what opportunities will show themselves. On this day I was taking photos of Bryn the dog on the beach and I noticed the plane coming into land. We were right at the end of the runway so I changed the camera to burst mode and stood waiting, taking shots of the plane as it got closer. As it flew overhead I pointed the camera up and kept shooting.

Editing

I tend not to do a lot of post-processing but this shot I thought would look good in black and white whilst also bringing the detail out. Because of the high shutter speed, the plane was frozen in the shot so it allowed the details of the undercarriage to be brought out.

In my camera bag

At the time I was shooting with my first DSLR the Canon 100D and used the kit lens, however since then the photography has really bitten me, I currently have a Canon 70D as my camera body and lens wise I have a Canon 24mm, Sigma 105mm Macro, Tamron 16-300mm and Sigma 150-500mm. Depending on what I am shooting depends on what goes in the bag as carrying all that around certainly adds weight. My normal everyday lens is the Tamron 16-300mm it offers excellent range for nearly every situation.

Feedback

I didn't set out to get this photo so just happened to be in the right place and right time, my biggest advice is always have your camera with you as you never know what you might see (I really should take my own advice sometimes!!).
