This photo was taken in my backyard, when I first started experimenting with my camera.Time
Of the pictures I've taken, I'm probably happiest about this one, because it was nearly an accident. I was younger, and it had just rained outside, and it was about 3 or 4, so the sun was beginning to set, and you could see it coming through the rain clouds. I was fascinated by the way the light was reflecting and bouncing off all of the water droplets. My parents were rather upset that I took the camera out in the rain, but I really loved how everything looked.Lighting
I was rather new to using a camera, so I would often get frustrated because the flash kept coming up and I wasn't aware of the other settings on the camera. So I decided to wait until the sun would break through the clouds, but I realized it didn't look quite the way I wanted to with the red roses in my backyard. Red roses don't necessarily need to be lit so brightly, so I kinda just went for it, because despite it being darker outside, the red still stood out, and even looked better and made it more mysterious looking.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon Rebel XTi, no tripod or flash, standard kit lens, 55mm.Inspiration
I was really just staring out the window, because when you live in a desert region, rain is kind of a wonder. I loved staring at the light reflecting off the cement and the shape of the droplets, and how the rose petals looked like velvet. They also happened to be in full bloom, so they were everywhere, and full of color. And at the time, my grandmother was immobilized and couldn't see them, so naturally I wanted to show them to her.Editing
I can't remember doing anything in post, I'm not very savvy with editing software and the like.In my camera bag
Aside from the standard kit lenses, I really only carry a 50mm f/1.8 lens, I love how precise it can be. I also carry a smaller LED light that can be attached to the camera as it provides somewhat of a flash effect, but it's much more controllable in brightness and can provide extra light without being too harsh.Feedback
No matter what the angle, no matter how difficult it may be, you'll be surprised at what may come of it. Always try a new angle because there's always a new way to shoot something, there's never one way, or a 'standard' way. Try it from a different height, side, a different frame.
