Location
The photo was taken at John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.Time
It was taken somewhat early in the morning.Lighting
The sun was being filtered through some thin clouds and was coming in from behind the birds which helped to light up all the water drops.Equipment
I took this photo with a Nikon D3s and a Nikon 300mm f/4 lens.Inspiration
I was originally taking photos of all these Northern Shoveler ducks as that sat swimming in the partially frozen water. After a while I began to get up to move away and it scared them all. They took off all at once and that is when I took this photo. After I walked away, they circled around and landed back in the same spot again.Editing
I only did basic contrast and white balance on this photo in Adobe Lightroom. In my camera bag
For my wildlife photography I currently have a Nikon D4s and a Nikon 500mm f/4 VRII lens. I still use the Nikon 300mm as well.Feedback
As with most wildlife photography the more time spent in the field the better your odds of capturing a unique photo are. You also begin to learn the behavior and favorite locations of wildlife which greatly increase your chances. Of course a bit of luck never hurts either.
