Behind The Lens

Location

Like most of the American scenery, the Grand Teton Mountains are surrounded by miles of empty land and national parks. We were actually heading towards Yellowstone National Park when we were drawn in by this mountain. We had to stop the car to enter the park, at which time I snapped a few shots out the window.

Time

It was 5:28 pm on August 13th 2013.

Lighting

Unfortunately, it was quite overcast that day so the lighting is not as precise as I would have liked.

Equipment

I'm still quite an amateur when it comes to photography. This was taken on the first decent camera I've ever owned, a Sony Alpha NEX-6. I believe it was taken with a 55mm lens.

Inspiration

The land around the Tetons is very flat. I remember squinting at the mountains as it blended into the sky due to distance and as I drove further towards the mountain, it became more definite. In reality, the mountain itself inspired me to take this picture. It drew me in from 50 miles away.

Editing

This photo does not have much editing. A bit of color balance but other than that, I left it alone.

In my camera bag

I'm quite an amateur when it comes to photography. The only things I carry with me are my two lens, wide and a macro, an extra battery and charging equipment plus cleaning supplies and a sunshade for the long range lens.

Feedback

Carry your camera everywhere and if you are uncomfortable or slow with the actual capture of a photo, you may want to let the burst mode do the work for you. Also, if you have an opportunity to take a black and white photography class, go for it. It's always easier to understand the camera and how to get a good shot by going back to manual developing.
