Location
This photo was taken at Cannon Beach in Oregon with the infamous Haystack Rock in the background.Time
When this photo was taken early in the day. My daughter and I were suffering from jet lag having arrived from the Northeast the previous evening. We happily found an almost empty beach when we decided to take an early morning stroll towards Haystack Rock.Lighting
This photo was taken in natural light on an overcast, foggy morning. These elements helped express the serenity and peace that my daughter and I were experiencing during our walk on the beach.Equipment
This was an impromptu photo using an older DSLR, a Canon EOS 20D, and a wide angle lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I wanted to capture a moment of determination. My daughter understood that reaching Haystack Rock would require a lot of walking, especially for a 4-year old, but she was determined to reach her destination. And she did.Editing
This photo required minimal post-processing. I made slight adjustments to the white balance and increased the contrast. In my camera bag
Since I often have my daughter with me, I like to travel lightly. I carry my camera and a few lenses including a macro lens, wide angle lens, and general-purpose zoom lens. Occasionally, I will carry a tripod if I know I will be taking multiple landscape photos.Feedback
My best advice especially when trying to capture a photo of a child is be prepared for anything: an impromptu smile, gesture, etc. Have your camera ready and try and stay one step ahead of your adorable subject.
