This is exceptional as the whole would look more like a fire in the desert than a cold ice fishing scene. It had to be open water that made all that water vapor appear at the shoreline, thanks for sharing this "I love Ice Fishing"

Behind The Lens

Location

Chatfield Reservoir, south east of Denver, Colorado.

Time

Just as the sun rose above the horizon. It was a bitterly cold winter morning, temperature about -15 F.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect! Crystal clear day, golden caste to the landscape.

Equipment

Canon 5D Mark III with 100-400 mm lens.

Inspiration

I was searching for wildlife when I noticed this intrepid ice fisherman braving the bitter cold. The golden light on the ice and the steam rising from open water in the background were irresistible!

Editing

Lightroom 5. Contrast and sharpening and little else.

In my camera bag

Canon 5D Mark III w 16-105 mm, Canon 7D w 100-400 mm and Sony NEX 7 w 18-50 mm and 50-210 mm.
