That's a amazing photo. Good way to capture the intensity of the waves and still keep the subject in focus.

Yes indeed, thoughts and prayers for those affected by Sandy, as well as those that are still dealing with the tragedy.

Quiksilver Pro New York Long Beach, Long Island Sept. 1-15, 2011 The photograph of Bret Simpson was taken 7th September, 2011, during the richest professional surf competition in history. "Stop No. 6 of 11 on the ASP World Title Series, the Quiksilver Pro New York is a historic event that not only represents the first ever elite contest on America’s East Coast, but also boasts the richest prize-purse in surfing history of US$1,000,000." - aspworldtour.comTime
I have to estimate sometime between 10am-1pm local time...Lighting
I'm not sure why I went crazy with the sepia. Perhaps there's a feeling of having a great ocean liner in juxtaposition with a great surfer, while both are earning their pay....Equipment

Being in New York for a visit, being at the right place/ right time! Always having had an interest in surfing, and to have the opportunity to shoot an historical surfing event, in a location so close to where I grew up.Editing
The sepia tone was done with the Canon Digital Photo Pro. I can't recall if I processed the photo through photoshop? In my camera bag
These days; Just my EOS 60 D still. I've been using the old reliable Nifty Fifty, 50mm f/1.8. Recently, finally made a fisheye lens purchase; The Bower 8mm f/3.5...It's a fun lens!Feedback
Studying photography, and it's multitudes of techniques can often be a challenge. While relatively new to the techniques of the craft, I always have had the knack for timing. When photographing surfers, it's imperative to find their rhythm, and learn when that surfer is going to set up their best maneuver, as they themselves try to time "the section"!
