Location
In the garage on a very cold day in ChicagoTime
During a snowstorm with very cold weather. The colder the better for good flake quality.Lighting
For this extreme macro photography I use an extension tube along with a reverse lens macro combination, flash photography is essential to get a sharp image as I'm hand holding to align the best position to photograph the flake.Equipment
Sony alpha mirrorless camera because of the live view for getting the composition and focus lined up. Speed lights are used to freeze the action and to get the best look for these tiny flakes.Inspiration
Seeing things at this microscopic level truly shows the beauty of nature.Editing
Usually the post processing is for sensor dust and to remove stray fibers that don't add to the composition. In my camera bag
Camera with strap and spare cards attached to it, batteries, a blower and gel stick for sensor cleanings, an ultra wide and normal zoom lens, and lots of spare batteries.Feedback
Experimenting is part of the fun in shooting macroscopic objects. There 10 ways to accomplish an image and finding the best way for you is the fun in it.
