Behind The Lens
Location
On the western shore of the island of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands. We had just received a new order of lenses and I was eager to test them out. I grabbed my granddaughter (now the BOSS!), and out we went for an adventure in photography.Time
OOOH! good one. It was in the afternoon but quite some time before sunset. The sun was still quite high in the sky. Living just 15º north of the equator allows us nearly 12 hours of sunlight each day.Lighting
All natural lighting with some fill flash at about 1/8 power and a silver reflector directly in front and below her.Equipment
As I previously noted we were testing some new lenses. We exclusively use Canon camera bodies and the new lenses just so happened to be Canon as well. We also use Sigma, Tamron and Tokina. The lenses included an 18-55mm without stabilization, a 75-300mm and 55-250mm with IS, respectively. A Dolica Pro all aluminum tripod, one Yongnuo 560-II flash with Yongnuo RF remotes and a 5-in-1 45" round reflector with silver exposed. Using RF remotes allows me to move away from the camera, make jokes (use humor to distract), and wait to catch any person off-guard - when their smiles are at their best.Inspiration
HAHAHAHAHA! You must be joking. I live on a TROPICAL ISLAND in the PACIFIC! Every day is SUMMER!!! HAHAHAHA....need I say more!!Editing
Yes. minimalist post processor. Noise reduction and maybe a polarizer or an ND filter at 10% or less. We use Lightroom v7.13 and Photoshop CS6 on a 64 bit custom machine modded by me.In my camera bag
Two Canon camera bodies, 3-lenses (2-telephoto/1-wide to normal w/macro), 2-Yongnuo 560-II flash units, 2-Canon mount battery grips, cleaning supplies, extension tubes, battery packs & AAA/AA batteries, ND filter kit, 17" Laptop, Tripod, Quick release camera strap, external battery power for flashes (8-AAs each), cables, cords, tie downs, duct tape (a MUST!).Feedback
