Bottle trees are a long-standing Southern thing, embedded in the life tapestries of African Americans, especially in the Mississippi Delta. Traditionally, live or dead crape myrtle and cedar trees were decorated with bottles - often blue Milk of Magnesia ones - intended to trap evil spirits and prevent them from entering the house.

Love these bottle trees! Question..has anyone found one and took it down? Or is that bringing on bad spirits? Curious? does Milk of magnesia still come in bottles like this?

There are some here in East Texas. Not sure if anyone takes them down. I do think MOM still comes in blue bottles. My not be cobalt bottles though. Thanks for viewing.

Nice pic!! Here in my small town in TX about every other farmer has something similar to this in their field/yard.
