Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo during a short excursion to one of the resort islands here in Cebu, the Philippines. Its called Sumilon Island. Its a 3 hour drive south from my place in the city.

Time

It was taken around 2 in the afternoon. While waiting for our boat to take us to Sumilon island i wandered into this man-made passage way where the boats dock and people would use this to get into them.

Lighting

I had no choice but to shoot as it is because it was in the middle of the day. So the lighting was all natural with the sun at its hottest!

Equipment

Would you believe I used my Casio Exilim EX-Z3 3.3MP digital camera! This picture was actually taken sometime July of 2007. This was my first Digital camera since i was more of a film photographer before that, having used various Nikon models like: F2A, EL2, FE2, F3, F50 and a few Pentax compact film cameras. The Casio Exilim was my first "transition"camera to digital.

Inspiration

I remembered i was so amazed with this first digital camera i had that i practically took shots of just about anything i found interesting. In this case i was interested in capturing this bridge from different angles and height and the diminishing effect on the wide angle lens (35mm). I like this angle best where you would not know how and where the bridge ends. It looked more like a hanging bridge when in fact there were solid concrete posts in the bottom.

Editing

Yes I did a lot of post-processing with this photo. I had to use my Lightroom first to improve the sky by adjusting the saturation and enhancing it by using the graduated filter. I also did some "softening" of the sky by using the clarity button and finally used Photoshop for the final fine-tuning and "cleaning" the image.

In my camera bag

This would greatly depend on where Im going. For vacations and travelling light i carry my 16-85mm and 12-24mm for landscape photos. For photo shoots on portraits and glamour my 24-70mm 2.8 nikon lens on my D300. If i feel too lazy to to pack and carry, i just bring my D90 with my 50mm prime. If i really really feel lazy my Iphone 6S plus will do.

Feedback

The great thing about digital cameras is you can shoot and instantly look at the results. Don't be afraid to shoot from various angles, go low, go high, get down, zoom in zoom out explore and forget the rules.
