Behind The Lens

Location

There is a river called Turag just beside of Dhaka city. When I was passing by, I found this beautiful alienate place with lots of pillars. And amazingly on top of every pillar, I did find a bird-nest. This is one of the crop pictures I've taken there.

Time

I believe not only golden hour but every hour of the day has its own beauty to be captured. This picture was taken at end of noon. As the surface is a bit mat looked, I assumed direct light reflection will be minimal.

Lighting

I didn't had tripod when shooting this picture. So all I thought to have as much light as possible to get more detailed and clear image. Sun was at 2 o clock over my head and roads seem to be dazzling with reflections. But these mat pillars saved my pictures from over exposing.

Equipment

Generally I use my DSLR on photo-walks, targeted photo shoots. But that time I was carrying a hybrid compact- Canon powershot SX50hs. For easy go round, I keep this with me. For compact, it surely provides a wide variety of supports. Lightweight, takes little space nad multi performing lens. It has 50x optical zoom that has actually made this picture possible.

Inspiration

On the opposite of river, in cool breeze but with lots of lights - this was making the mood. In middle of these when I found lots of pillar structures with bird nests, it somehow brought an alienated flavor. I shot hundreds of pictures there and every second I was feeling amazing.

Editing

This picture was taken years ago. I don't fully remember all of it in case of post processing works. It was random post processing in Photo-shop. I was checking which sooths better in eyes and expresses the most of what I felt. At the end, these are all that matters to me. I sharpened, corrected brightness and saturation.

In my camera bag

I am a minimalist actually. When I DON'T intentionally go for photo-shoot, like going to office or any other work; I carry Canon sx50hs or sony compacts with tripod. When I have space and opportunity to carry larger bag I take Canon 650D with tripod, 18-55mm, 50mm, flash and ND filters.

Feedback

Know your horse well when riding. A weaker horse can save you if you two have love and training between you. When taking pictures, you must know what opportunities you can take with your camera, your limitations, ways to overcome that or take that as advantage. At the end, picture that sooths the eyes and expresses my emotions at most- matters all to me. Nothing can be obstacle for creativity I believe. Good luck to all of you.
