As fast as dragonflies move you did an extraordinary job of capturing it. What were the camera settings and what lens did you use. Breathtaking! :)

Wow! I haven't been able to capture a clear picture of a dragonfly in flight. Good job!

Location
I took the photo on one of my local nature reserves in mid WalesTime
It was about 3.30 in the afternoon I had gone for the birds mainly but could not resistLighting
I just remember the sun being high and directly above me and thinking if I can get the shot it will need very little editingEquipment
At the time I was using a Canon 550d with the Canon 400mm primeInspiration
Just the opportunity, I rarely go out and end up with what I originally hoped for, look for opportunities and take themEditing
Only cropped it, everything else is straight out of the cameraIn my camera bag
I now shoot with a Canon 5d mii and have my 550d as a back up. Lenses include canon 400 mm prime, Canon 70-200mm and a sigma 150mm for my macro, I have other lenses but these 3 or the main ones in my bagFeedback
Patience and lots of it, study the flight and see if they fly over the same spot regularly, use a tripod if you can don't look through the view finder, look at where your camera is set up as they get close hit the button, you will miss more than you get so it really is a matter of spray and pray
