The island of Samothrace (Samothraki) in Greece has a magical, mystical atmosphere. With its rivers and hot springs and waterfalls it is home to these wonderful, colourful creatures, the dragonflies. One can find dragonflies (or 'river fairies' according to some myths) in secluded places flying around, playing with water and mating. I discovered this river fairy resting on a small branch in the river under a fallen tree trunk, enjoying the breeze on a hot summer day. **************************************** The shot wasn't easy to get as I had to lower the camera below the ground level (the water level was about 30cm lower than the river's banks) and it almost touched the water. I could not look through the viewfinder and my time was limited as the dragonfly soon flew off to another dance on the water.
