As is the case with all of John's work, he captures horses - and even their riders - beautifully!

Beautiful capture! Is this at one of the riding schools? (eg Spanish, French ect) The Capriol is such an amazing movement!

I took this photo at a performance of the Tempel Lipizzans in Wadsworth, IL.Time
This was one of my favorite performances of the season: the Champagne Toast. This performance is given in the evening in September after the end of a long show season. A toast is offered by the granddaughter of Tempel Smith reflecting on the season now ending and then the performance begins.Lighting
As the sun fades over the hill at Tempel Farms, the soft evening light wraps around horses and trainers as they perform "Airs Above Ground" a series of high level dressage maneuvers which recall the fighting horses of centuries back. This particular hirse is preparing for the Capriole, from which the phrase "Flying Lipizzan" originated.Equipment
Thus was shot with a canon 6D and a 70-200 f 2.8 L, handled.Inspiration
What the Tempel Lipizzans of course. Watching them perform has everyone reaching for their cameras. They are truly magnificent to behold.Editing
The phot is cropped and straightened and the saturation is tweaked just a touch to more accurately reflect what my eye remembers seeing. In my camera bag
I shoot horses quite a bit. My current set up consists if two cameras, two lenses, and one monopod. The first camera is a Canon 5D Mark III with a Canon EF 300mm f 2.8 L IS II USM and a monopod. The second camera is worn on a sling. It's a Canon 7D Mark II with the aforementioned Canon EF 70-200mm IS II USM. I can cover the entire arena with theses two lenses.Feedback
Come visit the Temepl Lipizzans during an evening performance this summer. :)
