Location
This picture was taken at Lord Ninian Crichton Stuart Memorial Chapel,Falkland,Fife. This Gothic chapel was built between 1912 and 1916 south of a private road which leads to Falkland House and is hidden by trees, and is unfinished. It is built from squared sandstone and is roofless. The design is cruciform and consists of a four bay nave, the first bay of which might have formed a vestibule if the chapel had been finished, with north and south aisles and north and south transepts towards the east. The chapel was designed for Roman Catholic worship and is oriented east-west. The ground around the chapel is heavily overgrown.Time
This image was taken at 16.40 on 26th March 2014,and was fortunate enough for the sun to come out just a half hour before I arrived, and this Image was the final result of an HDR Manipulation.Lighting
As stated above, the sun came out around 30 mins before I arrived here, and was just perfect lighting for the Effect I was after, which was an HDR image, which really brings out the detail in the available light and as you can see from the shadows, worked brilliantly.Equipment
This image was captured using a Canon EOS60D,no Tripod,as I was hunkered down with my arms tucked in tightly using the 3 shot burst(1st Image is under exposure,2nd is normal exp and the 3rd is over exp)so have to be as still as possible,as when the 3 Images are combined using Photomatix Pro 5,it can show up slight movement and potentially ruin the final pic.Inspiration
on one of my days off,I decided to head up to Falkland Palace, took a few shots, then kept on walking until I came across this building(ruin)with it's old Graves, and as the sun came out,it made the place look spectacular, even better using HDR.Editing
As mentioned above,I used Photomatix Pro5,which is an HDR Programme, and the result of which is this Image..near perfect lighting conditions for this shot, which HDR brrought out the shadows and light. In my camera bag
99% of my Images are captured using my Canon EFS 18/135mm Lens.also have the Canon 75/300mm Lens, but dont use(but keep it in the bag just in case...you never know when it could come in handy :) )also have 2 batt operated Remotes and a plug in(just in case)4 ND Filters, and the most important thing,my Lens cloth..Feedback
If anyone travels to this particular place,I would strongly recommend bringing wet weather clothes,as it is situated at the base of Falkland Hill, and at 1700ft,has it's own weather!! it's the same as everywhere else you go..you need patience, and not to be afraid to walk around looking for inspiration, asking the locals for ideas too helps a lot.
