Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken in the Adelfo Galli sculptor home during a photo session for a project dedicated to arts and crafts artisans of the area where i live.

Time

The image was taken at 24:20 a cold day in January 2014, Adelfo was intent on telling me his story of the sculptor, but also its history of life, the natural light filtered from a top window (Adelfo dress an old country house) and beautifully illuminated his face in qul currently engrossed in the story had taken on a wonderful intensity

Lighting

I love natural light and I love the contrasts that creates on people's faces, making them more dramatic and lived, in this picture the light coming through the window beautifully illuminates the Adelfo face on both sides, creating what is called Rembrandt effect. The intensity and dramamtricità dell'esptressione face is exalted from this single point light contrasts that creates.

Equipment

I took this photo with my Nikon D7000 and Nikkor lens 5mm f / 1.4 G freehand

Inspiration

Often my photographic projects are aimed at telling the stories of ordinary people, so I like to sit with my subjects and listen to their stories cogfliendo from time to time the "real" expressions on their faces that bring out the emotions of their memories sometimes even dramatic. I often characters of my homeland to document the changes taking place and what remains of the traditions of the past. Adelfo as sculptor and person who is still living without the influence of the modern world was a perfect subject for this my type of research.

Editing

I shot in RAW and post produce the images exclusively using Lightroom, I love the pictures in black and white and high contrast, use, the instrument brush to highlight eyes and other interesting parties and to counter the most significant areas aimed at giving depth and drama to ' image, however, does not work much my images.

In my camera bag

Normally I carry with me a backpack in which there is my D7000 with a 16-85 mm highly versatile standard zoom, a 50mm f / 1.4 wide-angle lens and a 10-20 mm. I often with me even a sony a6000, a mirrorless with excellent quality and very light. Often photographing freehand I rarely a tripod.

Feedback

To capture true and dramatic expressions of the subjects that we turn to photograph, I consider it necessary to empathize with them, hear their stories, understand their contexts, often visit several times my subjects and the best images never bascono the first meeting, but after a wild series of workshops and speakers, I like that the subject feels at ease and do not see me only as a photographer but as an interlocutor with cuo confide. Obviously it is very imposrtante also assess the quality of light, often working with natural light, during these sessions I rate always to place the subject near a window where it can filter light to illuminate his face.
