Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken At Wild Wings Birds of Prey centre, his name is Blaze and he is a Goshawk. He is a rescue bird and is now used for flying displays and also for education in schools.

Time

It was taken in the afternoon in January and this shot is hand held.

Lighting

N/a

Equipment

This was shot with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200, f 2.8. No other equipment was used

Inspiration

I regularly vusit the birds and it is usually owls, kestrels and falcons that I take. Blaze was a relatively new bird and he looks so different to the others, he has the most amazing piercing eyes

Editing

I did very little post processing apart from slightly altering the colour balance as it was quite a dark day.

In my camera bag

I normally have my Panasonic Lumix FZ 200 and very little else, it is a beautiful camera, has a decent zoom and reasonably simple to use. The battery life is excellent so unless I know I am going to take hundreds of shots, a spare battery isnt required.

Feedback

If you are a beginner and want to shoot wildlife I would always suggest visiting rescue centres or Zoos to start with. Look at the different animals and birds; see what their best features are; take loads of shots from different angles; go to a flying display and see how many pictures you can take in focus when the birds are in flight. All these help bring you a better awareness for when you go out into nature to shoot the wild animals and birds.
