An Australian Hornet feeding on flower nectar. They are a solitary insect. The female builds large mud nests in sheltered positions against buildings and structures. The females search for spiders and caterpillars and seal the captured insects inside the nests cells. The larvae then feed upon these insects before emerging. The adult wasp feeds on flower nectar. I've always found them to be quite friendly as long as you don't antagonise them (which I wouldn't do anyway) I love Nature :)

What a beautiful animal.
In The Netherlands (and Belgium) we have two different varieties: the European and the Asian. The former is the native one and completely harmless (for human and nature). The invasive Asian one is a real disaster, it harms the honey bee population very much and can even destroy a complete nest.
Thanks for joining my March 2024 Collection challenge. Good luck with your entry.
