It’s these hardened hands, a weathered face living close to the sun and over 8 decades living a rugged life connected to the vertical world. life not by choice but by necessity.
I’m forever grateful to pass through these pockets. They’ve deepened my perspective immensely. They’ve given me wisdom. They’ve taught me humility and resilience. While I’m now at home in the comforts of my suburban home, I know Damiana is out climbing those steep hills and quietly collecting wheat and going about her life. Somehow it brings me sort of peace. A life story I’ll never fully know or understand but her essence is my interpreter to the world and her eyes express what my heart already knows.
