One of the Tangalooma wrecks, a favourite roosting spot for the shags. Moreton Island, Queensland.
The listing of the Tangalooma wrecks dates back to the 1960's, when boat owners asked for safe anchorage close to the Island, as small vessels found it difficult to dock. Their request for a man-made harbour was granted in the form of the Tangalooma Wrecks. Fifteen vessels were deliberately sunk over the next two decades.
Coral is now starting to form in and around the wrecks, providing a safe haven for over 100 species of fish and sometimes dolphins, wobbegongs and dugongs.
