The strength of the Sainte-Anne-du-Nord River that shaped this 1.2 billion-year-old rock is an amazing site to see and use the trails. With its 74-metre drop exceeding Niagara Falls height, the spectacular canyon will surprise you. Several observation points allow you to discover the Canyon Sainte-Anne. I recall being very hesitant about crossing over the suspension bridges, when I saw the height and looked below, but I did.
You can view the waterfall from atop one of their many footbridges that traverse the canyon. There are also miles and miles of trails, all of which offer lots of scenic viewpoints from which you can view the canyon's dramatic beauty. The gorge was formed by the Sainte-Anne-du-Nord river over thousands of years but was more recently discovered by lumberjacks floating logs down the river. The canyon wasn't just for loggers, though... it was also a favorite spot of American writer Henry David Thoreau. As you explore, you'll see that each angle along the canyon offers a new view more stunning than the last, so it is great for photo opportunities. This image shows one of the suspension bridges that we walked across. When I looked back to take this photograph, I was able to capture the rainbow on the left. ©Copyright 2001 Lorraine Palumbo.
