I took this picture at my garage. I bought some colored paper (like 12 pieces) and stick them together so i could have a colored background. Obviously that wouldnt be even, so i knew i'd have to fix it afterwards on photoshop.Time
I thought my garage was dark enough so i could shoot at any time of the day but during day time there was a lot of light getting in and because i was using mixed lights, i couldnt do it. So i had to wait almost till sunset so i could shoot without ambient light filtering.Lighting
I used mixed lights. That means that i was wouking with studio strobes and continuous lights. the tricky part was to freeze the image while i could move the camera around and get that cool efect on the picture. I remembered how to set camera under those circumstanses: apperture for the strobe, speed for the continuous light. So after figuring out at what speed i needed my camera to let enough light to influence the image, i was all set to try out some new stuff.Equipment
I used a canon 5d mkIII a friend of mine lend me. lens i think it was a 24-70mm f/2.8 @ f/11. Had to use tripod because of the slow speed i was using (1 1/2 sec). My strobe was an Alien Bee B800 with a octabox and the modeling lamp turned off, for my rim light i used an ARII 1000w light.Inspiration
I saw an article that Julia Kuzmenko did months ago for F-Stoppers about mixing lights, and i thought i would be interesting to try out the set up. Images didnt come out like her's, but for being the first time, i think it was preaty awesome!Editing
Yes. I used photoshop to even colors, because of the mixture of light, i wanted all to be as consistent as possible. Obviously i retouched her skin and fiked some problems with make up. Color toning and sharpening was the final steps for the image. In my camera bag
i normally work with a canon Reble t3i and my fifty-nifty (Canon 50mm f/1.8). got a couple of lens filters for any creative ideas i can come up with (Rotatory ND filter and a 8 point star filter).Feedback
Once you've set you aperture for the key light (which probably will be the strobe), start "dragging the shutter" till you get the amount of light from your continuous light that you want to affect the image (or even modeling lamp from a secondary strobe, just make sure it doesnt trigger when you fire your main light). Once you've set them all, just shoot and start moving the camera or your subject to get some interesting efects. If your model or subject has shinny thing on it, maybe you can get diferent shapes and weird efects. Just try to go "wild" with it!
