Monument in honor of the war victims of 1830, 1914-1918 and 1940-1945

Next to the O.L.V Ten-poelkerk in Tienen there is a monument in honor of the war victims of 1830, 1914-1918 and 1940-1945. The monument is built in a modern design with the simplest volumes.

In front of the legendary 'boomkes', a park of wild chestnuts, stands the bronze statue by the famous Antwerp sculptor Jef Lambeaux4. It was unveiled on Sunday, August 6, 1905, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Belgian independence

As a photographer in Tienen, I have often captured the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ten-Poel Church on camera. It is an impressive Gothic building that plays an important role in the history of the city. I always find it special to see how people come together on the Grote Markt in front of this church, or to relax in the adjacent park of wild chestnuts. The monument in honor of the war victims is a reminder of the difficult times the city has faced and is an important symbol of respect and gratitude. As a photographer, I think it is my job to capture these special places in Tienen and show them to the world.
