A little bit of history. This is an original toll booth from the entrance of the Mersey Tunnel, Liverpool. Long since replaced by modern plastic constructions, this work of art is iconic, and is suitably conserved near to the Liverpool Waterfront. The Queensway Tunnel opened in 1934, when detail mattered, and anything worth building was worth adorning.

Strange how they sat all day in an ill-heated cabin in all weathers, touching coins that had been touched by others, breathing the germs that the public expelled in their direction, yet they never took a single day off. Amazing how greed cures all!
