Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while waiting for admission to Cirque du Soleilks big top in Brussels, Belgium. It was raining and since we had to wait outside, folks put up their umbrellas. I spotted this family under the rainbow-coloured umbrella. I rushed up to them, went as low as possible, framed up the shot as best I could with rain coming down real hard and then took it…

Time

It was during golden hour — but due to the rain you cannot really see that, can you :)

Lighting

The heavy clouds let barely any light in. It was just as well because that way I could expose for the floodlights on top of the circus structure. In post-production i had to lower the highlights due to the reflection on the rain-soaked tent top.

Equipment

I used the Fujifilm X100V, with the wide-angle conversion lens attached. The. I did a bit of post-production on the iPhone — that’s it.

Inspiration

I was intrigued by the rainbow-coloured umbrella set next to the circus tent. I loved the matching colours and how the rain highlighted light reflections.

Editing

Very minimal, on my iPhone. I straightened the image a bit, lowered the highlights and adjusted the exposure a little. Nothing spectacular, and certainly did not use any pro image adjustment software products.

In my camera bag

Nowadays it is the Fuji X100V, with the wide-angle conversion lens on it, whenever i want to go a bit wider than 35mm.

Feedback

Oh, this question again… who am I to hand out unsolicited advice? I just enjoy photography and try to learn from every situation and every image I take (especially the ones that I screw up :)
